Linux KVM VPS HostingContainer Runtime
Docker & Containerized App Setup
Turn your Intel Xeon Gold VPS into an automated application server. Install Docker Engine and Docker Compose to run web apps, databases, and Discord bots with total process isolation.
1. Why Docker on KVM VPS?
Unlike shared web hosting, an OrynCloud KVM VPS provides native Linux kernel virtualization. This permits running bare-metal Docker daemon processes with full cgroup isolation, enabling you to launch Nginx, Redis, PostgreSQL, and custom Node.js/Python containers without port collisions.
2. Installing Docker Engine via Official Script
Run the official automated Docker installation script on Ubuntu 22.04 / 24.04 or Debian 12:
Docker Installation
# Download and execute Docker convenience script
curl -fsSL https://get.docker.com -o get-docker.sh
sudo sh get-docker.sh
# Enable and start Docker service
sudo systemctl enable docker
sudo systemctl start docker3. Managing Docker as a Non-Root User
Add your user to the docker group so you do not have to type sudo before every docker command:
Terminal Command
sudo usermod -aG docker $USER
# Log out and log back in to apply group membership4. Verifying Docker Compose
Verify that Docker and Docker Compose v2 are operational:
Verification
docker --version
docker compose version5. Deploying Your First Test Container
Test Container
# Launch a test Nginx container on port 8080
docker run -d -p 8080:80 --name test-web nginx:alpine
# Visit http://YOUR_SERVER_IP:8080 in your browser to verify! Was this documentation page helpful?
