Networking & CrossplayPort Forwarding
Understanding Ports & Node Allocations
Understand how Pterodactyl assigns public ports to isolated Docker containers, and how to configure additional ports for Simple Voice Chat, Dynmap, or Geyser Bedrock crossplay.
1. What is an Allocation?
An Allocation in Pterodactyl is a specific public IP and Port combination (e.g., 103.159.xxx.xxx:25675) mapped through the host node’s iptables firewall into your isolated Docker container.
2. Primary Allocation vs Additional Ports
- Primary Allocation: The main port your Minecraft game server listens on (binds
server-portinserver.properties). - Additional Allocations: Extra network ports assigned to your container to run plugins requiring secondary communication channels (e.g. proximity voice chat, web maps, Bedrock WebRTC).
3. Adding Ports for Voice Chat, Dynmap, and Geyser
- In
panel.oryncloud.com, open your server and click Network in the navigation bar. - Click Create Allocation to attach an additional port from your product quota.
- Copy the assigned port number (e.g.,
25633). - Open your plugin configuration file (e.g.
plugins/voicechat/voicechat-server.propertiesorplugins/Geyser-Spigot/config.yml). - Update the port setting to match your exact assigned allocation. Save and restart the server.
4. Wings Docker Port Mapping & Hardware Firewalls
Only Use Assigned Ports
Attempting to configure a plugin to listen on an arbitrary unallocated port (e.g. typing 8080 or 9999 without assigning it in the Network tab) will fail. The host firewall drops incoming packets on unallocated ports to protect the node network.
