Server Databases & MySQL Guide

Provision isolated MariaDB database instances directly from your Pterodactyl panel to power cross-server synchronization, permissions, and rollback logging.

1. Why Use a MySQL / MariaDB Database?

Flat-file databases (like SQLite or H2 stored directly in plugins/) can lock up and corrupt your main server thread during heavy read/write operations. Cloud MariaDB databases offload query overhead to high-speed NVMe database clusters, unlocking:

  • Cross-Server Sync: Share ranks and balances across BungeeCord/Velocity sub-servers.
  • Zero Lag Rollbacks: CoreProtect can log millions of block interactions without reducing server TPS.
  • Automated Redundancy: Database data is isolated from container recreation.

2. Creating a Database in Pterodactyl

  1. In panel.oryncloud.com, open your server dashboard and click Databases.
  2. Click New Database in the upper right.
  3. Input a Database Name (e.g., luckperms) and set Connections From to % (allows connection from your container).
  4. Click Create Database.
  5. Your panel creates an isolated database and displays:
    • Endpoint: Host IP and port (e.g. 103.xxx.xxx.xxx:3306)
    • Database Name: e.g. s42_luckperms
    • Username: e.g. u42_a9d3k2
    • Password: Click the eye icon to copy the secure randomized key.

3. Configuring Plugins (LuckPerms Example)

Open plugins/LuckPerms/config.yml in your File Manager and update the storage section:

plugins/LuckPerms/config.yml
storage-method: MariaDB

data:
  address: 103.xxx.xxx.xxx:3306
  database: s42_luckperms
  username: u42_a9d3k2
  password: 'your_copied_secret_password'
  pool-settings:
    maximum-pool-size: 10
    minimum-idle: 5

Save the file and run /lp reload or restart your server. LuckPerms will automatically populate its tables in the cloud MariaDB database.

4. Database Security & Retention

Database Lifecycle Matches Server

Your MariaDB database instances are bound to your server service. If you cancel your server or let it terminate past the 14-day grace period, all attached databases are purged automatically.
