Networking & CrossplayDNS Configuration
Connecting Custom Domains & SRV Records
Allow your players to join using a clean, memorable address like play.yourserver.com instead of exposing raw numeric IP addresses and ports.
1. Why Use a Custom Subdomain?
A branded domain reinforces server identity and shields players from having to memorize random node IPs. If your server is ever moved to a different node, updating your DNS record redirects all players seamlessly without distributing a new IP.
2. Port 25565 (A Record) vs Custom Port (SRV Record)
- If your assigned port is 25565: You only need a simple A Record pointing
playto your server IPv4. - If your assigned port is NOT 25565 (e.g. 25675): You need both an A Record and an SRV Record so the Minecraft client automatically routes to your custom port behind the scenes.
3. Configuring SRV Record on Cloudflare (Step-by-Step)
- Log in to your Cloudflare Dashboard and select your domain.
- Navigate to DNS → Records and click Add Record.
- Step 1: Create an A Record:
- Type:
A - Name:
mc - IPv4 Address: Enter your OrynCloud server IPv4 (e.g.
103.159.xxx.xxx) - Proxy status: DNS only (Grey Cloud). (Minecraft traffic cannot pass through Cloudflare HTTP proxy).
- Type:
- Step 2: Create an SRV Record:
- Type:
SRV - Name:
play(this createsplay.yourdomain.com) - Service:
_minecraft - Protocol:
_tcp - Priority:
0| Weight:5 - Port: Enter your exact assigned port (e.g.
25675) - Target:
mc.yourdomain.com
- Type:
- Click Save.
4. DNS Propagation & Verification
Cloudflare propagates records within 60 seconds globally. Open Minecraft Java Edition, add a server with address play.yourdomain.com (without any port number!), and join your server.
